About this equipment

The facility-grade version of the bedside monitor: five parameters as standard, seven with end-tidal CO₂ and invasive pressure options, a larger display, longer trend storage and central-station networking. Hospitals and nursing homes buy these because they run for years and need to talk to each other. The clinical caveats are identical to any monitor — the numbers are only as useful as the person watching them, and the alarm limits have to be set for the patient rather than left as they came.

Also know about

The things that are easy to find out too late.

  • Sale only

The rental fleet carries the patient monitor and cardiac monitor. This one is supplied for purchase.

  • etCO₂ needs consumables

Capnography sampling lines are single-use and represent a genuine ongoing cost. Factor them in if you plan to use the seven-parameter capability.

  • Same alarm discipline

A facility-grade monitor left on default limits produces facility-grade alarm fatigue. Limits are per patient, and get revisited when the patient changes.

  • Networking needs planning

Central-station capability is only useful if the network and the station exist. Specify them together or the feature goes unused.

Safety & clinical information

Device information, not medical advice. Suitability for a particular patient is a decision for the treating clinician.

How it is installed and used

Mounted on a bedside stand within the carer's line of sight. The technician connects the leads, probe and cuff, then sets every alarm limit to the treating doctor's instructions rather than leaving factory defaults, and demonstrates silencing versus acknowledging an alarm.

Before delivery

Confirm a trained attendant or nurse will be present to act on what the monitor shows, and obtain the treating doctor's alarm limits. Without both, a monitor produces anxiety rather than safety.

Ongoing care and servicing

Finger probes degrade after four to six months of continuous use. Electrodes and sampling lines are consumables. Alarm limits should be revisited whenever the patient's clinical condition changes.

When not to use it

No trained attendant present
A monitor reports; it does not treat. Without someone able to interpret and act, a pulse oximeter and clear escalation instructions serve the family better.
Use of factory default alarm limits
Defaults alarm almost continuously on home patients, which leads to the alarm being muted — and a muted monitor is worse than none.
Cuff on a limb with a fistula, lymphoedema or a clot
Repeated cuff inflation on such a limb risks vascular damage. Use an alternative site.

Possible side effects

Skin irritation and pressure injury at sensor sites
Electrodes, probes and cuffs left in one position cause irritation and pressure marks. Rotate sites regularly.
False alarms from motion or poor contact
Movement, cold peripheries and dried electrode gel all produce artefact that reads as a clinical event.

Serious risks

Life-threatening, permanently damaging, or requiring hospitalisation.

Alarm fatigue leading to a missed deterioration
Repeated false alarms train carers to ignore them, and a genuine desaturation or arrhythmia is then missed — the harm is the delay, which can be fatal.

Regulatory status

Classified Class C (moderate–high risk) under India's Medical Devices Rules, 2017. CDSCO does not license rental or resale providers and Encone Care claims no CDSCO approval.

Frequently asked questions

What is the difference between a 5-para and 7-para monitor?
Five-parameter covers ECG, SpO₂, blood pressure, respiration and temperature. Seven-parameter adds end-tidal CO₂ and usually invasive pressure. Capnography matters mainly for ventilated or sedated patients.
Do I need a multi-parameter monitor at home?
Only with trained cover present to act on it. For facilities and permanent high-dependency rooms it is the right purchase; for a temporary home need, the rental monitors do the same clinical job.
